Once again a team from Leonard Elementary brought home the gold in the 10th Annual Battle of the Books.
They called themselves ‘The Page Flippers? and they scored 74 out of a possible 84 points to finish first at last week’s district-wide competition held at the Oxford High School Performing Arts Center.
The team consisted of Leonard fourth-graders Josie Hoffman, Micah Rolling, Katelyn Schrah, Alexa Schramm and Eliza Wiseman. Their adviser was parent Kerry Rolling.
A total of 17 teams comprised of about 85 fourth-graders from Leonard, Lakeville, Oxford and Clear Lake elementaries competed in this year’s Battle of the Books.
To prepare, the students must read seven books.
During the competition, they must answer 14 questions ? two about each book.
Each correct answer earns a team 5 points. They can earn an additional point on each question if they spell the author’s name correctly.
Leonard Elementary has won the Battle of the Books three out of the last four years.
The competition is conducted by the Oxford Public Library in conjunction with the school district.
