Library friends makes a new friend

Reading 100 books and helping collect money for the Goodrich Library is just part of how an Oaktree Elementary student has spent her summer vacation.
Hannah Dawley, 9, an avid reader and frequent library patron, said she was inspired to collect donations door-to-door in her township neighborhood for the Goodrich Library after finding an article in American Girl, a popular magazine for girls ages 8 to 12-years-old.
‘The story was about a young girl in Maine who collected money for her library and thought I should do the same here,? she said. ‘I knew the library needs attention and upgrades so I went door-to-door to help. People were great about giving. The Goodrich Library is an important part of the community’people need it for the computers and many students use the (Goodrich) library for school work.?
Friends of the Goodrich Library Vice-President Nancy Dugas said the donation will be used for paint and other materials for the library.
‘We’re very grateful for Hannah’s work,? said Dugas. ‘Money is still needed to help fix up the place. We’ve come a long way here, but it’s an old building and it’s costly to keep up.?
The century-old building recently underwent a host of renovations including painting, roofing and electrical.
