Brandon Twp – As it has been often said, ‘necessity is the mother of invention? and waterproof blankets are another success to support the adage.
‘Since we started advertising the blankets in April, we’ve sold about 80 of them,? said Cathy Traynor of Brandon Township.
In this case, sisters Cathy Traynor and Cammy Gardner, are both the mothers and inventors of Sneakies Waterproof Blankets.
‘My sister and I came up with the idea of Sneakies when my niece’s little boy kept wetting the bed at my house,? said Traynor.
‘I found I was wearing out my blankets by washing them so much.?
Challenging each other to design the perfect waterproof blanket Traynor said that while her sister is the seamstress of the family, the pair came up with similar designs to solve her overused blanket problem.
‘We both put our heads together and each came up with almost the identical design.?
‘We just love them’everybody loves them,? she said.
Designed to keep a secret, Sneakies Blankets take the worry and work out of bed wetting.
With its unique design of a reversible, super absorbent, fleece outer shell surrounding a flexible, ultra-thin rubber lining, the blanket provides a convenient variety of lightweight uses.
The waterproof blankets have proven to lend privacy as bed protectors, a chair mat style provides comfort for the elderly, and its portable lightweight design makes for handy camping, beach, or baby-changing accessories.
Wary of how critical design patents are, because of a copy incident five years ago, after the pair developed a child’s jacket, Traynor says they have been unable to market their waterproof blankets until recently.
They have, however, used the blankets at home and given them to friends for testing and the results have been overwhelming.
‘We’re getting tons of calls, she said.
‘We can hardly keep up with the orders.?
Currently the blankets are made by order and the sisters hope to develop a Web site for more convenient ordering, with a long-range goal of selling the fluffy secret keepers on local shelves.
