Contrary to what the credit card companies, catalogs and television commercials tell us everyday, the best gifts aren’t purchased, they’re made by little hands.
Last week, some industrious Oxford Elementary School students devoted some classroom time to creating special presents for Mother’s Day.
In teacher Mary Kraniak’s classroom, the fourth-graders cut, folded, tied and stapled empty juice bag containers to make colorful change purses for their mothers.
Not only did they make great gifts, re-purposing these juice bags from the cafeteria prevented them from being tossed in landfills where it takes them 300 years to biodegrade, according to Kraniak.
Over in teacher Stephanie Niemi’s class, the third-graders decorated travel mugs for their mothers with colorful designs and heartfelt words. ? Editor C.J. Carnacchio
