Looking toward the future

Ortonville- About 40 people came to give input and share ideas on what they would like to see in the village during Future Days on Oct. 20.
Village Manager Ed Coy was very pleased with the turnout.
‘The folks that came all had ideas and opinions and they were all equally valuable,? he said. ‘Our consulting firm, McKenna, was impressed.?
McKenna Associates, Inc. of Northville is doing the village’s new master plan.
During Future Days, McKenna and the village’s master plan task force conducted two walking tours of the village and also combined several smaller focus groups into two large ones to take input from attendees, most of whom seemed to agree sewers in the village are of utmost importance.
‘The pervasive theme throughout the day was that we need sewers in Ortonville,? said Coy. ‘It was ubiquitous. Not even that ‘we would like,? but ‘we need (sewers).??
Coy said another common suggestion was to have more buildings on Mill Street in order to offer more business opportunities.
McKenna Associates will now consider the input and conduct more traffic flow studies before putting the information together and shaping the master plan, said Coy, who expects the plan to be finished in about a year.
