Groveland Twp. – On behalf of her husband who died on duty May 13, Waterford Police Officer Nicole Davis will accept an award of gratitude.
Officer Gary Davis,36,a Groveland Township resident and an officer of the Bloomfield Township Police Department, was struck by a drinking driver after arresting another suspected drunk driver. He was a decorated 12-year veteran of the force.
Davis, 36, had pulled onto southbound I-75 near Coolidge Road in Troy about 2:45 a.m. His police car was struck by a 2001 Ford Focus driven by a 21-year-old Royal Oak man.
A 26-year-old Madison Heights man, in the rear seat of Davis? patrol car, was also injured in the crash.
Mothers Against Drunk Drivering of Oakland County will present the award at MADD’s 15th Annual Lifesaver Awards ceremony Oct. 16.
Michigan State Police Trooper Richard Sanchez, of the Groveland post, will also be honored at the ceremony.
