Martian-Blue Devils lacrosse

Goodrich-Lacrosse has arrived.
Earlier this year, the school board moved forward with lacrosse as a club sport. The new team will join with Lake Fenton Schools after their board of trustees OK’d the combined squads at their Monday night meeting.
‘The response from students has been very strong,? said Dave Davis, district athletic director. ‘About 50 students have expressed an interest in playing lacrosse.?
Davis said the girls and boys teams, which will begin play in the spring of 2016, is in need of a coach and some assistance to get started.
‘It’s really uncharted territory for this community,? said Davis. ‘Many parents just have not played (lacrosse). As a result, many are new to the sport. It’s a very exciting game, it’s like hockey on grass. We are always looking for opportunities for the students to become involved in school activities.?
Like the hockey program, lacrosse is a club sport which means it will be self-funded. Each player will have to provide their own equipment and uniforms, although games can be played at the Roy U. Stacey Athletic Complex which has lines marked on the turf for lacrosse. The combined teams will share a coach and play local teams including Swartz Creek, Davison, Lapeer, Fenton and Powers Catholic High School.
‘All we need is a name for the team that combines the Martians and Blue Devils.?
