On Monday, May 30, Brandon and Groveland townships, and the Village of Ortonville, will host ceremonies in honor of deceased veterans of all wars.
Every year since 1868, American citizens have gathered in cemeteries and at memorials across the country to pay tribute to those who faithfully served in the defense of our nation.
Memorial Day observances in Brandon and Groveland townships and in Ortonville will begin with a parade and ceremonies beginning at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at the Old Town Hall, at the corner of Church and Mill streets, and will proceed to the Ortonville Cemetery west of M-15. Wreaths will be laid at the World War I and World War II memorials in the village en route to the ceremony. The main ceremonies will be held at the Ortonville Cemetery following the parade.
All veterans are cordially invited to participate in the parade and ceremonies. Transportation will be provided for those veterans who are no longer able to complete the route on foot. Volunteers are needed to carry the service flags during the parade. Wearing of uniforms is desired, but not required.
All scout troops and packs along with other civic organizations are invited to participate in the parade with marching units. All wishing to participate in the parade should be at the Old Town Hall no later than 9 a.m.
