The American Legion Post 233 in Lake Orion will start off Memorial Day activities on May 29, with a 9 a.m. memorial ceremony honoring local military personnel who died in war. The ceremony will be at Eastlawn Cemetery on Orion Road.
Following the cemetery service, local veterans will cast a wreath into Paint Creek at Children’s Park at 10 a.m. The wreath-tossing is a symbolic gesture recognizing the sacrifices of military personnel who died at sea.
Finally, a Memorial Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m., traveling from Blanche Sims south on Florence to Flint, west on Flint to Lapeer Street, and north on Lapeer Street to the Ehman Center.
The parade will close portions of Florence, Flint and Lapeer Streets, beginning a half hour before the parade starts, and is to conclude by 11:45 a.m.
