A dispute over alleged racial insesitivity by a Clarkston High School teacher is being resolved, according to Superintendent Dr. Al Roberts. After meeting with representatives from the NAACP back in May, Roberts released a statement, saying:
“Together, we cleared up some misconceptions and established an open line of communication. The district has and will continue to champion diversity efforts. Our ability to serve and respect all of our students, for their work and for who they are, is something we always work to achieve. We appreciate the fact that there are a number of organizations like the NAACP and NCCJ that are there to help.”
The issue stems back to September 2005 when a student’s mother complained the teacher asked the youth about the use of a derogatory racial term in reference to his skin color.
