Area law enforcement have continued to round up more suspects following several months of home invasions.
On May 26, Michigan State Police arrested a man and woman both in their 20s in Flint after a tip from residents in connection with a series of break-ins including several in Atlas Township. That same week arrests were made in the Lapeer County area of two additional suspects in connection with home burglaries in the area.
In early May Genesee County Sheriff’s Department reported that two men in their 20s were arrested by GCSD deputies from the Atlas Township substation in connection with a series of area break-ins. GCSD Sgt. David Dwyre said the pair have been connected with at least 12 break-ins in Lapeer, Genesee and Shiawasee counties. Dwyre said a home invasion in Gaines Township was allegedly committed while the residence was occupied. The crimes were committed over the past three months.
‘Three groups of burglars were operating on the same day in Atlas Township,? said Dwyre.
‘It makes it difficult to follow. We catch one group than it just keeps going. We received a lot of tips from residents. The rural areas were hit the hardest do to the big yards and unlike a subdivision where neighbors are close by you just can’t see the house next door.?
The tough economy and drug money especially heroin have prompted an especially bad year of home invasions said Dwyre.
‘Jewelry, firearms and electronics were stolen the most. In the rural areas residents should remember to call in specious vehicles that may be in the neighborhood.?
