Oxford Twp. officials last week voted 7-0 to authorize Supervisor Bill Dunn to purchase a new vehicle for the municipality.
Dunn is allowed to spend up to $28,000 for a 2013 or 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4×4. After ‘extensive research,? Dunn determined ‘it is financially economical, safe and great on gas.?
‘The Jeep Grand Cherokee is used by several communities,? noted Trustee Jack Curtis. ‘Orion Township, they have 2009s. They have zero repair cost (for) those vehicles.?
The current township vehicle, a 2003 Saturn, has been requiring extensive and costly repairs. ‘I know over the last couple years, we’ve put $2,000 or $3,000 into it,? the supervisor said.
The township has only one vehicle.
‘As the vehicle has become untrustworthy, I do not advise any employee taking (it) out of the community,? Dunn wrote in a memo to the board.
Fire Chief Pete Scholz volunteered to take the old vehicle off the township’s hands. ‘We could use it for training and cut it up into little pieces,? he said.
‘How much (are) you going to give us for it?? Dunn asked.
‘Pictures afterwards to see what it was like,? Scholz quipped.
