Ortonville-Linda Byorth Detrio first developed the Country Market about 13 years ago and served as director for about three years.
Now after a 10 year absence, she’ll be back at the helm of the village summer tradition but now with a new look.
‘The concept is that you don’t have to drive the kids to another town for a fun activity,’said Detrio, owner of Paris Dreams Art and Antiques and Country Market co-chairperson.
‘My goal is to have a different theme or activity every week. When I first started the market we had about 20 vendors each week come to the village.?
Each week various vendors gather downtown to sell their wares, such as fresh produce, flowers, plants, art and antiques. The event is set for Saturdays from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. through September and will take place at the corner of Mill and Pond streets, in the village parking lot next to Mabelena and across from Papa Bella’s.
‘My vision of Ortonville is to make this community the cultural hub of North Oakland County by supporting the arts and music, and making it part of this community,? she said.
This year, Byorth Detrio plans to have many family-oriented activities, including crafts, giveaways, and ‘stuff for the kids.?
Vendors can rent a space for $10 per week. Non- profit groups can have space for free. Detrio hopes to have a variety of artisans and entertainment. Refreshments such as lemonade and baked goods will be available.
