The Oxford Village Council Tuesday approved spending $805.60 for the purchase of 380 uniform shoulder patches for the village police department.
The patches feature a “new and unique design” created by dispatcher Debbie O’Farrell with the input of other officers and dispatchers.
The patch’s design features 7 images symbolizing ideals that represent the department and community. Those images are:
n Eagle ? Represents person of noble nature, strength, bravery and alertness. The wings signify protection.
n Stag ? One who will not fight unless provoked; peace and harmony.
n Sun ? Glory and splendor; foundation of life.
n St. Michael ? Officer’s protector.
n Knight ? The soul guiding the body; man’s journey through life.
n Pavilion ? Readiness for battle (Oxford Village landmark; the gazebo in Centennial Park)
n U.S. Flag ? Self explanatory.
Funds for the new patches will be taken from the PBT fees collected by the police department.
Police Chief Mike Neymanowski said the 380 new patches should last the PD between 3 and 5 years.
