New village manager resigns

Ortonville– Next.
Less than five days after she started, Judy D. Andersen resigned the position of village manager.
Andersen, who was hired July 12 and started work July 18, abruptly resigned July 22.
‘I’m terribly sorry,? she said. ‘I was enjoying the appointment.?
Andersen left to take a position as a financial analyst with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. She explained she had been interviewing with the state for several months, but had given up. On July 21 she was offered the job at the DEQ. She gave village council president Sue Bess her resignation the next day. Bess, who is disappointed, says she wishes Andersen well.
‘It was an offer I can’t refuse,? Andersen said. ‘I certainly wish Ortonville the best and am deeply sorry this is the way it had to be… I’m sure they’ll find someone qualified and recover in no time.?
The village has been without a manager since Paul Zelenak left May 16 to become the city manager of Bloomfield Hills.
At the end of April, the village council posted the opening for a village manager on the Michigan Municipal League website and received about 35 applications for the position in three weeks.
The council voted decided during their meeting July 25 to review those resumes and make calls to see if candidates they are interested in are still available.
‘It will be at least three weeks, but probably more like a month before we hire a new village manager,?
said Bess.
