‘Night at the Movies? changes location

Ortonville- ‘Night at the Movies,? planned for 7-11 p.m., Aug. 11, has a new location.
The fifth annual free family event, sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority/Main Street, is set to take place at the ballfields at Cedar and Ball streets in the village. The Dreamworks film ‘Over the Hedge? will be shown.
‘We’re partnering with the Ortonville Rotary Club to use the concession stand, and village playground and sport facilities,? explains Main Street Manager Janine Saputo. ‘I think it will be successful.?
Saputo said she was unsure whether there would be as much space as there was at Harvey Swanson Elementary School, the previous site for the event, but said the new locale has advantages of nearby restroom facilities. Ortonville Baptist Church and Ortonville United Methodist Church have donated the use of their parking lots and residents can sit on the ballfields as well as the porch at the Edna Burton Senior Center. Bleachers are also available.
Residents are encouraged to bring chairs and sleeping bags. A bounce house will be available for children courtesy of Brandon Township, and the Ortonville Rotary Club will provide concessions.
‘Over the Hedge? is an animated family film from the creators of ‘Shrek? and ‘Madagascar? and features the voices of Bruce Willis, Gary Shandling, Steve Carell, William Shatner, Wanda Sykes, Thomas Haden Church, and Nick Nolte. The movie starts at dusk and will be shown on an inflatable 25-foot-wide screen with a special surface to give the best picture quality possible. The sound system is designed for outdoor use.
‘It’s a cute movie and will be in close proximity for village residents, who can walk over,? said Saputo. ‘We’re hoping this will be a nice facility. Come join the community for a free night at the movies in your own neighborhood.?
