No changes following vote recount

Atlas Twp.- Township Treasurer Ann Marie Slagle will stay in office following a recount of the August primary election results.
On Sept. 7 five 2-member teams from the Genesee Board of Canvassers reviewed the 839 votes (55 percent) for Slagle and the 679 votes (44 percent) tallied for Forys at the township offices. The results found two additional votes for Slagle and one more vote for Forys.
The two candidates had faced off in the Aug. 7 Republican primary election. After, Forys challenged the results claiming many people could not believe how the vote turned out and that she was not comfortable with how the absentee ballots were counted.
The petition filed by Forys had challenged the precinct election inspectors.
Atlas Township Clerk Tere Onica responded to the results.
‘It was publicly recognized that the office of the Atlas Township clerk did an exemplary job in running the Aug.7, 2012 primary election,? said Onica.
‘The Genesee County Board of Canvassers and the Genesee County clerk commended the professionalism of Atlas (Township) and its election process as the recount for the position of treasurer concluded Friday, Sept. 7, 2012. The unsubstantiated charges of fraud were baseless from the beginning and the final results were indisputable. The percentage of votes cast re-electing Incumbent Treasurer Ann Marie Slagle remain unchanged. All costs for the event will be borne by Atlas (Township) taxpayers.?
Slagle will now run unopposed in the November general election.
