Some vehicles from the North Oakland Transportation Authority (NOTA) fleet received contaminated fuel last week, but fortunately, no damage was done and the taxpayers won’t have to pick up the tab to clean their systems.
NOTA Director Lynn Gustafson reported three mini-buses received contaminated diesel fuel from the Meijer gas station located at 920 N. Lapeer Rd.

Approximately 89 customers who purchased diesel fuel at the Oxford Meijer station from July 14-16 were reportedly affected.
The station’s diesel fuel tank was accidentally contaminated with unleaded gasoline during a fuel delivery.
NOTA was informed the concentration level of unleaded gas in the contaminated diesel fuel was an estimated 11 percent.
Gustafson said the three NOTA vehicles ‘haven’t experienced any difficulties? to date, but each of them is going to have the contaminated diesel drained and their fuel systems cleaned.
NOTA won’t have to pay a dime for any of the work. Either Meijer or its fuel-distributor Brenner Oil, based in Holland, Michigan, will be covering the cost.
Gustafson was impressed with Meijer’s response and willingness to make things right. ‘They were really good about dealing with it,? she said.
