Ortonville – It won’t be long before new vintage displays will have a new home at the Old Mill.
The Ortonville Community Historical Society is delighted to have two additional floors of display space. The new building replaces the old and damaged shed razed last fall.
‘What I am most excited about is to have a larger area to display the artifacts we have and in turn that will bring more people to the Old Mill,? said Tom Stowell, member and past president of the historical society.
Early firefighting in Ortonville will be the concept for the first floor, which will include pictures of fires in Ortonville over the years. Ideas for the second floor are still being discussed by the exhibits committee, but include an antique tools display from the Old Mill collection, Native Americans in the village theme, and memorabilia from the 1950s and 1960s.
The work in progress is open to the public. The historical society is inviting people from the community to stop by the Mill on any Saturday morning between the hours of 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Funds from the Village of Ortonville, the Brandon Fire Department, and the historical society membership has helped to complete the exterior work, however more funds are needed to complete the interior of the project.
