Orion Physical Therapy goes above and beyond

Personalized attention is desired in almost every field. Orion Physical Therapy has certainly made that desire a reality.
‘When you’re here, you’re going to get the time and attention that you deserve,? says Brett Debo, one of OPT’s three physical therapists.
‘Our primary focus is on what we call continuity of care,? adds co-owner Kent Allion.
‘The therapist that evaluates you is the one that treats you every time,? notes Allion, who says Treatment consists of 25 to 30 minutes of ‘hands-on? care with overall sessions lasting approximately 1 to 1 ? hours.
OPT’s third physical therapist, Beth Peruski, is a more recent addition, which helps to show just how successful their hands-on approach has been.
Their location is conveniently open 13 hours a day during the week (from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Allion says that the three physical therapists are extremely flexible and often come in before posted hours or on weekends as needed.
‘We definitely go out of our way to accommodate anyone at any time,? he says.
Allion and Debo started at their current location on Lapeer Road over two and a half years ago in order to offer personalized care that larger corporations and hospital based systems often neglect.
But that’s not the only reason they parted from the corporate world.
‘We wanted to be more actively involved in the community as well,? Debo says, noting that OPT sponsors two baseball teams, a hockey team and will be participating with the upcoming Relay for Life at Lake Orion High School. In addition, they have offered free ‘Throwing Clinics? to limit injuries in the youth Federation Baseball Leagues.
‘That’s something we didn’t have the opportunity to do before,? he says.
In all, OPT offers outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine rehabilitation and specializes in osteopathic manual therapy. ‘We treat a large variety of patients for Pre/Post-operative joint care, work related injuries, neck and back conditions, fracture care, sports injuries and everyday aches and pains,? says Debo.
‘We’ve had an outstanding patient satisfaction rate,? says Allion. ‘In our two and a half years, I can’t think of one patient that was unsatisfied.?
Debo notes that the physical therapists often become close friends with their patients along the way. ‘When you spend a lot of time working with individuals you tend to develop a relationship with them. A majority of our patients comment on the personal attention that they receive and the up-beat atmosphere,? he says.
‘We do have fun,? adds Allion. ‘It’s very relaxed here. Coming in three times a week for four to eight weeks can drag on, but we try to keep it fresh. Our patients are always here, not complacent and bored with the program.?
Allion and Debo agree that this approach has helped them expand over the years.
‘You know you’re doing something right if you end up treating friends and family of someone you have already treated in the past,? says Allion.
Debo believes that the step-down program OPT offers is one of the reasons patients always leave satisfied.
‘Therapy itself is just one component of achieving full recovery for our patients,? he notes. ‘You’ll only get out of it what you put in.?
‘This is why we place a large emphasis on patient education and offer an affordable Step Down Program to maximize long term outcomes for our patients,? says Allion.
OPT also offers therapy supplies at the suppliers cost, another perk that the larger corporations can’t match.
‘It’s more important to us to see patients stay compliant with their routines after care is completed. Making post rehab care affordable is one way of making that a reality,? says Debo.
‘It really comes in handy in today’s era of insurance limitations,? says Allion, who notes that patients are not always fully recovered in the time frame their insurance policy allots.
‘This way they can continue at a next to nothing cost,? he adds.
If their vast array of ‘continuity of care? techniques isn’t enough to get you in the door, consider this: OPT also raffles off Pistons tickets.
‘It’s just a way of saying thank you to the hard work our patients put in,? says Debo.
