Ortonville’s Mill Street Market to close

Ortonville- Mill Street Market will close Dec. 31. Whether the convenience store will reopen remains to be seen.
‘New Year’s Eve will be our last day,? said General Manager Paul Amori. ‘It might be temporary, we will know more as the winter goes on.?
Mill Street Market has been owned by the Kratt family for more than 30 years. The store located at 457 Mill St. sells candy, Carhartt merchandise, beer, pop, chips and ice cream. When Bill Kratt died in August, his brother and business partner Bob Kratt took over operations at the market, as well as at the neighboring feed store, Hamilton’s of Ortonville.
Amori said the market’s fishing bait as well as the DNR machine, from which hunting and fishing licenses are sold, will be moved to the feed store. ‘In the winter, there is not a lot of traffic in downtown Ortonville,? Amori said. ‘We are trying to maximize profits. If we do anything this winter, we will remodel, but that has not been decided. We will reassess come spring, and see what fits.?
