Oxford girls help hockey team skate to championship

Oxford residents Bryn Phillips and Kylie Rancilio helped their hockey team, the USA Wildflowers U10, win the Michigan Girls Hockey League U10 Tier 3 Playoff Championship held over the weekend in Brighton.
The USA Wildflowers beat the Kensington Valley Ravens 2-1, the Ann Arbor Blades 3-2 and the Suburban Freeze 4-2.
The team only lost one game and that was against the Traverse City Stars, who beat the Wildflowers 2-1.
In the game against Ann Arbor, Rancilio, a fourth-grader at St. Joseph School in Lake Orion, scored all three goals, which is known as a hat trick. That win put the Wildflowers in the championship game.
In the championship game against the Suburban Freeze, Phillips, a fourth-grader at Oxford Elementary School, scored the winning goal.
Coached by Sean Flynn, the USA Wildflowers U10 team is made up of girls from Oxford, Clarkston, West Bloomfield, Waterford, Royal Oak, Huntington Wood and Franklin.
This was the second season for the Michigan Girls Hockey League, but the first year for the playoff format. The season starts in August and ends in March.
