The Brandon-Oxford ski team took top place at the Apple Mountain Ski Invitational in Freeland this past week.
On the boys slalom, Oxford took first place with 31 points over Saginaw Heritage with 35, Gar-Essex with 46, Saginaw Harrison with 51, Carman-Ainsworth and Valley Lutheran.
On the giant slalom, the Wildcats again took top honors with 30 points.
Placing on the individual slalom runs were Tim Smith at 30.60 in fourth, Will McCullough at 31.15 in sixth and Jeff Haselhuhn at 31.27 in seventh.
On the giant slalom, David Vollbach took fifth at 30:15, Haselhuhn took sixth at 30.22 and McCullough took ninth at 30.53.
Winning medals for the Brandon-Oxford boys were Haselhuhn, McCullough, Smith and Vollbach.
For the girls, Oxford again took first place on the slalom with 21 points over Saginaw Heritage with 36, Gar Essex with 45, Carman-Ainsworth, Saginaw Harrison and Valley Lutheran.
On the giant slalom, the Lady Cats took first with just 16 points.
Placing on the individual slalom races were Grace Auchterloni in fourth at 35.12 and Lauren Bayliss in sixth at 35.83.
The giant slalom the Oxford girls once again taking the lead with Auchterloni in first at 31.82, Karen Offer in seventh at 34.36 and Bayliss in eighth at 34.37.
Winning medals for the girl’s team were Auchterloni and Bayliss.
On Thursday, Brandon-Oxford competed in the MHSAA regional competition. Neither team placed in the top three spots to qualify for state.
The girls took eleventh place overall on the slalom with 194 points.
Karen Offer came in 32nd with a time of 28.55 on her first run, 35.83 on her second and a total time of 1:04.38.
Grace Auchterlonie came in 43rd with 30.28 on her first run, 36.85 on her second and 1:07.13 for her total.
Heather Tiffany came in 62nd with 33.35 on her first race, 38.64 on her second and a total time of 1:11.99.
On the giant slalom, the girls took sixth place with a total of 133 points.
Auchterlonie came in 18th with a first run time of 22:40, second time of 19:49 and total time of 41.89.
Offer came in 33rd on the run with 22.75 on her first course, 20.63 on her second and a total time of 43.38.
Tiffany came in 62nd for the course with a first time of 25.33, a second run time of 21.94 and a total time of 47.27.
At the end of the day, the Lady Cats took an overall 10th place with 327 points.
The Brandon-Oxford boys team did just as well for the day by placing fourth with 104 points on the slalom and ninth with 167 points on the giant slalom.
Brandon-Oxford skier Dan Offer skied his way to the top of the pack on Thursday and secured himself a spot in state individual competition with a seventh place finish on the boys slalom.
Offer’s first run time for the day was 25.52, his second was 23.85 and his total was 49.37.
Offer also placed eleventh on the giant slalom with a time of 16.67 on his first run, 18.99 on his second and a total time of 35.66.
Overall the boys placed ninth for the day with a total score of 271.
