The Oxford Wildcats are State Champions. They earned their first Class BB state title with a 20-13 overtime win over Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills Saturday at the Pontiac Silverdome.
Volunteers are putting up drywall and otherwise helping Oxford theater owner Arnold Simmons build his new Oxford Twin Cinema.
Jerry Griffin, Doug Marsh and J. C. Webster are among the Oxford Lions Club members who will be on the streets this weekend selling Goodfellow Newspapers.

The Oxford Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade Saturday was snowless. However, two days later a blizzard forced schools to close because of clogged roads.
There are currently 323 Oxford students in special education classes. Stan Mulka is the Special Ed. director.
Area photographers Todd Matus and Bruce Beck held their first professional photo show at Acheson Jewelers on S. Washington St. last weekend.

Mrs. Jack Valentine will be in charge of entertainment at the Oxford Junior Womens Club Charity Ball later this year.
Mrs. Reba Fletcher will open her Oxford Beauty Salon tomorrow at 17 Broadway St.
The Dominican Sisters on W Drahner Road are planning a Yule Gift Shoppe starting December 6.
Howard Evans is playing the French Horn in the 43rd Army Band. He has been chosen to play with the Anchorage Symphony. He is stationed in Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

The 900-plus students at Oxford Middle School were evacuated Tuesday by a bomb scare. The search found nothing.
Copper Hills Golf and Country Club on Lakeveille Road was recognized as one of the top courses in Michigan. Curtis Wright is the designer.
Oxford Police Department has added a second Harley to its fleet.
Rewards are building for whoever shot a pair of pet deer at Candy Cane Christmas Tree Farm on Seymour Lake Road.

Randall Fox, of Lake Orion, has been named president of Oxford Savings Bank. Bob Dick, chief executive officer and chairman of the board, was also bank president until this appointment.
Two men, posing as roof resurfacers, stole $4,000 for an elderly Oxford couple last week.
Paul Barron, owner of Motor and Machinery Casting Company in Detroit, has purchased Lanthier Foundry and Machine Company from the estate of the late Henry Lanthier.
Two men pleaded guilty to attempting to blackmail an Oxford businessman.
Mukhles Yousif, of Troy, has purchased Oxford Party Store from Dick and Linda Korneffel.
Colleen Curcio is the All-Middle School spelling champion, Seth Hall is 8th grade champ and Shance Carlisle is 7th grade champ.

Milt Francis, J. B. McQueen and George Randall are working on additions to the Vet’s Hall and a new front.
The Rev. Harlow Hoyt turned the first shovel of dirt for the new Free Methodist Church.
Marilyn Unger, James Casey, Paul Koerner and Nancy Grey will be touring Europe this summer with the Michigan Chorale.
Blankets are being dry-cleaned for $1.00 at Prince Launderers and Dry Cleaners.

‘Village weighs M-15 options? M-DOT met with the Clarkston Village Council to discuss ways to make the intersection of M-15 and Clarkston Road safer. Options included widening Clarkston at the intersection to make room for a turn lane. Another idea was to install a traffic light.
‘Board passes weapons act? The Independence Township Board amended its loitering ordinance to ban weapons, including knives, clubs, throwing stars, and guns. The ordinance was used to charge a teenagers who was wearing spiked boots.
‘Medical hopes hinge on new, innovative magnet? Two Clarkston doctors, Drs. JosephHelpern and Roger Ordidge, worked on the Henry Ford Hospital’s new, 3-Tesla, whole-body Nuclear Magnetic Resonance machines. The machine, now known as an MRI scanner, was experimental at the time.

‘Developer moves to establish senior ‘village?? A plan for an $18 million senior citizens? village on 30 acres near Dixie Highway and M-15 was proposed. Developers were preparing a presentation for the Independence Township Board.
‘Schools to seek twice-yearly taxes? The Clarkston School District asked Independence and Springfield township boards to collect their taxes in the summer as well as in the winter. The second tax collection would reduce interest costs.
‘Village approves Historic District Commission? The Clarkston Village Council created a five-person commission to oversee construction and give the final OK to alterations, repairs and demolitions of homes and outbuildings in the Historic District.
‘Clarkston schools join court fight on state aid? The School Board voted to join a consortium of school districts in a lawsuit challenging the Michigan School Aid Distribution Act. At issue was the property-tax funding system in which rich areas, Birmingham at the top, had more than three times more to spend on each student than poorer areas, with Holly at the bottom.

‘Lloyd C. Megee to be candidate? ‘Slip? MeGee announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Independence Township clerk. He said he felt he was qualified to meet the problems of this fast-growning township.
‘Rotary Club news? Rotarian Fred Warrick invited the attorney handling claims against the SS Andrea Dorea, which sank that past fall.
‘Interviews with seniors? Clarkston High School seniors Sharon Glennie and Don Alexander were interviewed. Both said they enjoyed a good steak. Glennie’s favorite saying was ‘Honestly! Really!!? Alexander’s favorite saying was ‘O shush!?
