Clarkston Watershed Group and North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy hosts Fighting Phragmites Workshop, 4-6 p.m., Sept. 27, Deer Lake Beach on White Lake Road.
Phragmites, or common reed, is a tall grass generally be found in wetlands, lakeshores, roadside ditches, and other wet areas. They tend to create dense stands, degrading wetlands and coastal areas by crowding out native plants and animals, blocking shoreline views, and reducing access for swimming, fishing, and hunting.
The workshop, offered with support of City of the Village of Clarkston, will focus on herbicide spraying and controlling growth.
