Picnic shelter contract goes to second lowest bidder

Because the original low bidder, Tanner Building and Remodeling, has pulled out of the contract, the Orion Board of Trustees awarded the contract to construct a picnic shelter at Friendship Park to the second lowest bidder.
Parks and recreation director Rock Blanchard said Tanner had agreed to bid the project at zero profit, then after being awarded the contract realized he had not accounted for unloading the shelter and use of a forklift, which were included in the bid specs.
WCI Contractors, Inc. will complete the project at the park, at the corner of Clarkston and Baldwin Roads, by Barn Daze in October at a cost of $19,500, with a 10 percent contingency.
