Oxford Township officials last week voted unanimously to authorize Supervisor Bill Dunn to begin the process of changing the name of a portion of Granger Road to Dunlap Road.
The supervisor was also charged with notifying the three residences along the one-mile stretch of Granger Road (between Seymour Lake Road and Dunlap Road) that would be affected by the name change.
Fire Chief Jack LeRoy proposed the name change at a recent Roads Task Force meeting. Treasurer Joe Ferrari asked the chief to submit the idea to the township board.
Granger Road is primarily an east/west secondary connector between Dunlap Road in Oxford Township and M-15 in Brandon Township.
However, at its intersection with Dunlap Road and the recently created Market Street (which runs through the Waterstone development), Granger Road becomes a north/south road for one mile, connecting to Seymour Lake Road.
‘It would be less confusing to the general public for Granger Road to end at the Dunlap and Market Street intersection, allowing Dunlap Road to be continued south to Seymour Lake road as one continuous thoroughfare,? Leroy wrote in a March 24 memo.
LeRoy suggested that if such a change was approved, it should begin January 1, 2005 so as to ‘allow sufficient time for residents to change their street name with utilities and on legal documents.?
‘It seems pretty straight-forward,? Dunn said.
No other board members had any comments.
