Dear Editor:
Over the past 18 months, I have had the opportunity to serve as council president for the Village of Ortonville. I was considering writing a letter to list the many accomplishments we’ve achieved; however, I would much prefer to acknowledge some people who deserve recognition.
First, I am extremely proud to work with the other six village councilmembers. They are all very knowledgeable and bring constructive and insightful opinions to the board room. Our staff and employees are also to be commended. In just a short period of time they have adjusted to our new work environment with the highest of standards and have shown their flexibility by taking on many new projects, like the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
I am also pleased to be associated with, and would like to thank, the DDA board and its many volunteers. Their hard work cannot be matched. The efforts of this group, along with our many other volunteers, civic groups, and local businesses all contribute greatly to improving our community. My thanks to all of you.
These are difficult times. By being fiscally responsible, we have been able to reduce the village’s annual budget by over 10 percent across the board. Additionally, we are expecting services to our residents to improve dramatically. I look forward to the coming months, when many more changes will be coming our way. I am very proud of our small town of Ortonville and the folks who call it ‘home.?
