Runners do well against Holly and in Oxford Invitational

Oxford cross country runners had a exhausting week with a league match-up against Holly on Wednesday and then hosting the annual Oxford Invitational on Friday.
The boys downed the Bronchos to hoist their league record to 4-3. Senior captain Adam Richmond was first across the line with a time of 17:35, and only a second behind, running the best race of his career thus far, was sophomore Ben Cole coming in second place with a time of 17:36. Other finishers for the Wildcats included: senior captain Todd Davidson 17:44/4th, sophomore captain Adam Heskitt 18:08/5th (personal best time), sophomore John Elin 18:17/7th, senior Mike Szabo 19:01/9th, and junior Greg White 19:14/10th..
Head coach Ray Sutherland was especially proud of the girls? performance even though they were unsuccessful in defeating Holly. Each and every runner ran leaps and bounds over their old times and all recorded new personal records in the meet.
‘That was an incredible run,? stated Sutherland. ‘We still fell short of winning, but we can say that Holly was better than us. Things are coming together like they are supposed to.?
Finishers for Oxford include: (PR notates personal record) freshman Taylor Dewey 21:51/4th PR, junior Heather Nester 22:01/5th PR, junior Abby Stewart 22:16/6th PR, freshman Danielle Kelley 22:30/7th PR, sophomore Kelsea Schodowski 23:16/9th PR, sophomore Ellen Darnall 23:27/11th PR, junior Kayla Kolean 23:45/12th PR, sophomore Michelle McNanney 24:32/13th PR, senior Jessica Checkeroski 23:45/14th PR, senior Cayla Stanard 25:45/15th PR, and freshman Erin May 26:58/19th PR. The girls record drops to 3-4 in the league.
Oxford Invitational
Anyone driving down M-24 on Friday evening could see from the road that Oxford Hills Golf Course looked like a happening place ? and it was.
There was a huge turnout of fans and runners for the annual Oxford Cross Country Invitational that hosted 21 boys and girls teams.
The boys had a respectable 12th place finish on the day and had two runners medal. Senior captain Adam Richmond finished with a time of 17:12 for a medal and 15th place, and senior captain Todd Davidson earned a medal as well with his 17:40 time and 40th place finish. Sophomore Ben Cole 18:12/59th, and sophomore Adam Heskitt 18:15/65th were other finishers for Oxford.
With only a days rest from a race where all Ladycat runners pushed themselves to all reach personal records, the Oxford girls? team placed 18th in the invite. Top runners for the Ladycats were Abby Stewart 22:23/66th, Taylor Dewey 22:37/72nd, Heather Nester 23:33/101st, Kelsea Schodowski 23:34/102nd, and sophomore Kathryn Burt 23:45/110th.
