Schenden’s Spa on the Lake

Walking into Schenden’s Spa on the Lake, you might feel more like you’re walking into the home of a friend than a spa on the cutting edge of medical technology.
Troy plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Schenden opened Schenden’s Spa on the Lake in Lake Orion three years ago, and operates it in conjunction with his practice in Troy. Dr. Schenden will soon be turning the Troy location into a full service day spa, incorporating all of the services available at Spa on the Lake.
Dr. Schenden serves as medical director for both spas, and Lake Orion resident Karen Matthews is his spa administrator.
Clients coming to Schenden’s Spa on the Lake don’t need to worry about feeling rushed. According to Matthews, Schenden’s provides old-fashioned service, which can include a cup of tea in front of the fireplace.
Schenden’s Spa on the Lake is housed in an old-fashioned Victorian home at 302 South Broadway. The house is full of antiques and has a cozy feel. The Schenden’s staff includes well-trained, exceptional technicians from aestheticians, massage therapists, endermologie technicians and nail technicians.
Aestheticians include Rozalia, who has had extensive European training, and is well-versed in all the new techniques available to medical offices, such as laser hair removal and microdermabrasion.
Camille specializes in relaxation and pampering to make her clients feel they have escaped from stress and schedules to “somewhere in time.” She does paraffin facials, European facials, body waxing and makeup.
Marianne, Becky and Brita will buff and polish nails to perfection, followed by a paraffin dip with a beautiful nail polish. They love to relax a client with a pampering European pedicure or the ultimate hot stone pedicure. Both of these include a foot massage to rejuvenate tired, stressed feet. The nail technicians can add a french polish to finish off this special treatment.
Ann Marie and Camille coordinate appointments with Schenden’s technicians. They will answer any questions as far as spa services available, what they include and how to make your visit to their unique Spa on the Lake memorable.
Matthews, who also manages Schenden’s Skin Care Center in Troy along with Schenden’s Spa on the Lake, makes it her mission to provide the ultimate relaxation to residents and visitors. Individual, specialized services coupled with the best technology helps set this “day spa” apart from those available at the mall. All services at Schenden’s Spa on the Lake are approved by Dr. Schenden.
“We also offer lunches with Victorian catering,” Matthews says. “We not only do pampering, but we do the newest in medical technology for skin care.”
Spa on the Lake was one of the first in the area to offer hot stone massage. It is an hour and 15 minutes of pure bliss. Other massages offered are either an hour-long and 1-1/2 hours long, for your ultimate relaxation. They also offer half-hour massages for that “quick fix” when you are short on time.
The massage therapy staff includes Kelly, Jill, Becka, Linda, Jamie, Gabriel and Maureen. All massage therapists at Schenden’s Spa on the Lake have diplomas from accredited massage schools and continue to advance their expertise in various forms of massage.
“Our massage therapists are adept at every type of massage we offer—Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, aromatherapy and prenatal. So, no matter if you just want to relax, or if you have a problem with your back, for instance, that you want relief from, our therapists can accommodate you,” says Matthews. “Many times clients will call with headaches or neck and back pain, come in for a massage and leave feeling relieved.”
The best quality oils are used in the aromatherapy treatments, and with aromatherapy massage or body wrap, you are given your own blend of oils to take home with you.
With a doctor’s approval, pregnant women can enjoy being massaged as well. We have a specially designed bolster that enables them to lay on their stomach, with no harm to the baby. Schenden’s also offers couples’ massage, with couples massaged in the same room, for a shared experience. The Couples’ Celebration Package starts off with Native Grains Body Polishes, Swedish Massages and finishes with lunch for two.
Spa on the Lake is always looking for new ways to pamper clients and has expanded their body treatment services to include a Native Grains Body Polish and Aromatherapy Body Wrap, in addition to their Botanical Body Wrap and Rehydrating Paraffin Body Wrap. Reflexology is another new service that can be done alone or with the use of hot stones.
Endermologie is a remarkable cellulite treatment that the FDA has approved for reduction of cellulite. Jill and Bonnie are well-trained and certified for this treatment.
Matthews says Schenden’s Spa on the Lake has felt very welcomed in the Lake Orion community, and runs monthly specials on services. Check The Advertiser or Lake Orion Review every week to see what is being offered, or ask the spa to e-mail you the specials each month.
Schenden’s will also host your special event or occasion, such as birthday parties, bridal showers or anniversaries. Gift certificates are also available.
Schenden’s is now offering new spa packages, including Essence of Beauty (including Native Grains Body Polish, aromatherapy body wrap, aromatherapy massage, aromatherapy facial, aromatherapy pedicure, manicure, makeup application and lunch), Ultimate Hot Stones, Couple’s Celebration, and a Spa Sampler, among many others.
Schenden’s Spa on the Lake is open Monday from 12-8 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Wednesday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Call (248) 693-2999 to schedule an appointment, and visit the spa online at www.spaonthelake.com.
