Scout project takes aim natural area

Goodrich-Long after eighth grade middle school student Justin Broecker graduates, students and area residents may forget his name, but they certainly will remember his project that will keep growing.
The school board OK’d Broecker’s Eagle Scout project on Monday night to resurrect a natural area near Reid Elementary School.
School officials say the small wooded area near the playground at Reid was established about 30 years ago, but has deteriorate due to neglect.
The project should begin early this spring and includes a new fence, repair to a board walk area, clearing brush and construction of two 16-foot benches.
‘I think it would be a good area to go and study or take a class,? said Broecker, 13. ‘Area businesses have contributed to the project, which should help cover most of the expenses.?
The project cost is $184 with Brown’s Do-it Center, Goodrich and Superior Landscaping assisting with the materials.
Once the project is complete later this spring, Broecker will need only one badge, physical fitness, to earn before receiving his Eagle Scout award.
After completing high school Broecker said he will seek a college degree in history and plans to be a middle school teacher.
