Brandon Twp.- Firefighters responded to a fire at about 12:35 a.m., Sept. 16 at a home in the 5500 block of Sherwood Road.
Fire Chief David Kwapis said the blaze began in the utility room near the water heater. All residents were safely out of the home upon arrival of fire and sheriff’s deputy personnel. The homeowner said he woke up to a loud popping sound and found smoke and flames coming out of the utility room.
Kwapis said the home sustained $50,000-$75,000 worth of damage to the home from smoke and heat.
‘The fire was extinguished quickly,? he said. ‘Had the smoke alarm not gone off, or if the homeowner had not woken up, within a few minutes it could have been a complete loss of the building. They were very fortunate no one was injured and everyone got out OK.?
