St. Mary’s series will explore questions of faith

St. Mary’s-in-the-Hills Episcopal Church in Lake Orion will host a new contemporary series of faith-based courses starting Feb. 26.
Recently, the Episcopal Church has been making headlines globally, and locally.
The consecration of an openly gay bishop; ‘The Book of Daniel,? a television series with an Episcopal priest as the main character; and Jan Karon’s popular Mitford fiction series about Father Tim have created a buzz within the Church, as well as in the secular world.
People are asking about this group of Christians and their perspective.
In response, St. Mary’s offers a series of Christian education courses called ‘via media,? literally ‘the middle way.?
The program is focused on continuing the conversation already started in the larger community. It’s open to anyone who has ever been curious or interested in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition.
Our objective is to create an open and inclusive environment that welcomes all people wondering about the Episcopal Church or St. Mary’s-in-the-Hills, including St. Mary’s own parishioners.
Over a period of six weeks, St. Mary’s invites those seeking a spiritual community to enter both the journey, and the conversation.
Using a combination of learning styles that include video, written materials, small group discussion, and a large group forum, people will encounter the basic principles of Christianity through the Angelican approach of scripture, tradition and reason.
St. Mary’s encourages people to bring their ideas and questions, and they will provide the informational resources, and a place to exchange their thoughts, to voice their opinions, and to learn how to answer their own questions of faith.
There are six group sessions in the series, offered at three different times: Group 1 will be Feb. 26; March 5, 12, 19, 26; and April 2; on Sunday evenings, 5-7 p.m. (meal included).
Group 2: Feb. 28; March 7, 14, 21, 28; and April 4; on Tuesday mornings, 10 a.m.-Noon (breakfast included).
Group 3: Feb. 28; March 7, 14, 21, 28; and April 4; on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m.(meal included).
The location will be at St. Mary’s, 2512 Joslyn Court, next to Olde World Canterbury Village on Joslyn Road.
