State Farm agent Scott Ockerman

You’re not just another customer at State Farm Insurance Agent Scott Ockerman’s office. When you’re there, you are part of the family.
Family is number one for Ockerman, who along with wife Christy have three children: Three-year-old Emma, two-year-old Abigail and one-month-old Benjamin.
“I’m a big time family guy,” he says. “That’s where my focus is.”
And when you visit Ockerman’s State Farm Office, you’re treated like a friend.
“When people walk in my office, I want them to walk out feeling blessed,” Ockerman says. “I won’t hire anyone without that mentality.”
Ockerman has been in business in Lake Orion for a year and a half, and said he was motivated to start his own State Farm office after his father passed away in 2001.
“That drove something home. Am I really making a difference with my life?” he says.
An Owosso native, Ockerman graduated from Michigan State University and took a job in operations purchasing and manufacturing. He worked for Johnson Controls and Jabil Circuit before deciding to go into the insurance business.
State Farm offers much more than just homeowners, auto and life insurance. At Ockerman’s office, clients can find services to help them manage every part of their financial lives.
“Life insurance I’m passionate about,” Ockerman says. “We’re one of the top life insurance producers in the area. I want to make sure I can protect families in case of tragedy…my dad died of cancer. Some people want life insurance when it’s too late. My goal is to make my clients start thinking about what would happen to their family financially if a death were to occur unexpectedly.”
Ockerman said he is aiming to change the typical image of an insurance agent.
“They are right above used car salesmen in people’s view,” he says. “I’m out to change that. I’m in sales, but I’m not a salesman. I’m going to bring up needs and you make the decision.”
Ockerman says his job is to protect his clients.
“I take that very seriously,” he says. “I love meeting different people and making a difference in their lives.
“My team spends most of their time writing homes and autos, and most of my time is spent assuring clients that financial risks such as premature death, long-term care, and debt management are taken care of,” says Ockerman. “Once these risks have been contained we start planning for retirement, as well as their children’s education.
“I do a lot of Roth IRAs, traditional IRAs, 401 K Rollovers, annuities, Coverdell ESAs and 529s,” says Ockerman. “We also do car loans, savings accounts, checking accounts, mortgage loans, HELOCs, CDs, and other financial services.
“I just feel great knowing that my clients can walk in my door, insure their home, auto and life, start their retirement plans, save for their children’s college education, and open up their checking and savings accounts…all under one roof. It’s a beautiful thing, and quite honestly, so much fun!” Ockerman says.
“To top it off, State Farm is a phenomenal company, whose financial strength is solid,” he adds. “In summary, I have a phenomenal team, phenomnal products, a financially solid company, and the service my clients receive is second to none…I promise, in my opinion, you’ll never get a better agency or company to do business with.”
