Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for Oakland County hosts a kick-off rally, Aug. 9.
‘We are so excited to bring this nationally acclaimed walk to our community, said volunteer Event Chair Gabrielle Newton. ‘There is so much we can do for our neighbors, families, and companies through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Anyone can get involved and help our community fight back against breast cancer. Just give us a call and we will help you start a team.?
The non-competitive walk is set for Oct. 1 at Independence Oaks County Park. Teams of walkers complete a 5K or 1 mile course, with activities before and after.
‘The American Cancer Society uses the funds raised through Making Strides to fund research leading to the discovery of lifesaving treatments, advocate for all women to have access to mammograms and treatments ? regardless of income ? and to provide free programs and services that improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families,? said Holly Soranno of the American Cancer Society.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, founded in 1993, raises awareness and money to fight breast cancer. About 6 million walkers raised more than $400 million so far.
