The Lady Wildcats Lacrosse season came to an end on May 23 after the Academy of the Sacred Heart beat Oxford 19-5 at the MHSAA Regional playoffs.
‘Sacred Heart is a good team and they played well,? said Coach Andrew Bausack. ‘We weren’t able to get into any sort of rhythm the entire game.?
Sophmores Claire Seely and Kayce Calcatera scored two goals each, while the fifth goal was scored by Senior Captain Jordan Pieczynski. ??
With 10 OAA Scholar Athletes on the varsity roster, eight Academic all-state players, and qualifying for the Team Academic All State Award, Bausack said he is ‘very pleased? with his team’s performance this season.
‘Our final regular season record was 10-4-2.? Getting to 10 wins is a nice accomplishment for a varsity program that is only in its second year of existence,? he added. ‘We totaled 5 wins/ties against teams that beat us last year, and our four regular season losses came by a combined 9 goals.?
While Bausack said they are ‘losing a terrific senior class, both in terms of talent and leadership,? their departure will allow for other players to take a step up next season.
‘The non-senior varsity players are all ready for bigger roles,? said Bausack. ‘Our JV coach (Tim Bausack) has done a great job developing talent that is ready to step into varsity roles next season.?
‘Most of the players in our program will be playing lacrosse in the off-season to improve their skills,? he continued. ‘Despite having a nice record this season, everyone in our program understands that we still have a lot of work to put in before we get close to where we’d like to be as a program ? no letting up here.?
