On Oct. 5 and 6, the girls swimming and diving team finished fifth overall in the Oakland County Championships.? This finish was the highest point total and placing in the team’s history.?
The Dragons County Team was led by senior captains Courtney McClear and Katie Corcoran, junior Paige Munro, sophomores, Bethany Abramczyk, Danielle Kudla, Lydia Mattar and freshmen Kirstyn Abbasse and Natalie Zainea.
On Friday night Corcoran finished third overall in the diving event, which was her best finish ever, simultaneously setting a new varsity record with a point total of 374.00.? On Saturday during the swimming events the Dragons had several top eight finishers throughout the meet.? Freshmen Kirstyn Abbasse placed fifth in the 200 Freestyle and sixth in the 500 Freestyle.? Sophomore Bethany Abramczyk placed eigth in the 200 Freestyle and fourth in the 500 Freestyle.? Sophomores Danielle Kudla placed seventh in the 100 Freestyle and Lydia Mattar finished fifth in the 100 Breaststroke.? These swimmers also all qualified for the Division 1 MHSAA State Swimming Championships to be held in November.
The dragons 200 Medley Relay Team of McClear, Mattar, Zainea and Munro finished 14th, the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Kudla, Munro, Abbasse and Abramczyk placed third and the 400 Freestyle Relay Team of Abbasse, Zainea, Kudla and Abramczyk finished fifth.
The Dragons host Lahser High School this Thursday for the OAA White Division Dual Meet Championship.? If the Dragons are able to defeat the Lahser Knights then they will have a share of the Dual Meet Championship title.?
