Tax dollars at work

There’s a brand new truck in Oxford Village’s DPW fleet ? a 2005 International 7400 dump truck.
The truck features a stainless steel dump box and stainless steel salt-spreader, both with a four-to-six-yard capacity, and a 36-inch high snow plow on the front plus a 10-foot wide underbelly plow.
DPW Superintendent Don Brantley said the new truck is ‘smaller? and ‘more maneuverable? than its predecessor, a 1987 GMC dump truck, which the village is in the process of selling.
Brantley said the new truck has many advantages over the old one. Having a dump box and salt-spreader both made of rust-proof stainless steel will give it a longer life on the road and keep a nicer appearance.
Having a front snow plow, something the old truck didn’t possess, will allow the new truck to clear village streets, particularly those in neighborhoods, more effectively and efficiently, according to Brantley.
The new truck cost the village $100,610 and Brantley expects it to last 15 to 20 years.
