Next week, Louis DeLuca plans to take a stand against over-taxation and he’s hoping others will join him.
‘We’re sick of the taxes, the government, the way everything’s going and we’re ready to let our voice be heard,? said the 43-year-old Brandon resident, who lives in the Oxford school district.
DeLuca is organizing a TEA Party rally in front of the Oxford Village offices at 22 W. Burdick St. on Wednesday, April 15 ? the deadline to file income tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service.
TEA, which stands for Taxed Enough Already, is a national, grassroots movement.
Rallies protesting the level of taxation in this country are being organized in front of city halls in nearly 1,900 communities across the United States. For more information visit www.teapartyday.com.
‘We’re taxed enough and with Obama in office, it’s only going to get worse,? said DeLuca, who works as a heating/cooling contractor. ‘There’s so many taxes that have been added on (over the years) and it doesn’t seem to be enough, no matter how much they tax us. We’re taxed on everything. We’re taxed on top of taxes and nobody’s doing anything about it. Enough’s enough.?
DeLuca plans to have two rallies in front of the village offices on April 15 ? one at 12 noon and one at 5 p.m. for people who can’t make the earlier time due to work.
He intends to post a message advertising the rally on the I-75 Marquee, an electronic sign owned by Pontiac and formerly used for Silverdome events. He also wants to erect signs on all the corners along M-24.
‘I know (radio talk show host/Detroit Free Press columnist) Mitch Albom pretty well,? DeLuca noted. ‘I’m going to try and get him to talk about it on WJR or maybe have me on.?
As for the actual rally, DeLuca’s still working out all the details. ‘Right now, I’m trying to get a hold of a couple of politicians to have them speak,? he said.
Protest signs and buttons, along with food and beverages, will be available during the rally.
When asked why he’s doing all this, DeLuca replied, ‘I’m a father of 10 and I’m worried about my children’s future . . . We’re spending money that they haven’t even made yet.?
‘They’re talking about taking over GM and Chrysler and the health care system,? he said. ‘This whole thing scares me, the direction this country’s going in. Socialism seems to be imminent.?
DeLuca, who grew up in Addison and graduated from Lake Orion High School in 1983, said this rally is all about letting the politicians know where the average citizen stands before it’s too late.
‘The problem is all the good, hard-working citizens are usually too busy to say anything and you always have all these radicals voicing their opinions,? he explained. ‘It’s time for us to get off our couches and get out there.?
