Teen pleads no contest in ?06 crash

Lake Orion resident Daniel Chase, 18, pleaded no contest last week to operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and involuntary manslaughter, in relation to a December 2006 car crash.
A second-degree murder charge was dismissed, and Chase can withdraw his plea if the judge does not follow the eight-15 year sentencing guideline.
Chase was accused of driving the wrong way on Lapeer Road back on Dec. 16, 2006, and killing Sherry Burke, 24, of Oxford.
Lt. Bruce Naile, of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, Orion Substation, said computer programs were used to determine how the accident occurred. He said the scene of the accident was so bad that it was hard to identify which vehicles, if any, were traveling in the wrong direction. Sentencing is scheduled for late March.
