To the editor:
In response to ‘Over-taxed in Atlas Township,? page 6, The Citizen, Jan. 12):
I live on S. State Road, just south of the village. Every time it rained, even a little, water from my neighbor’s yard and from the ditch south of me would drain into my front yard. Several times I have had five or more inches of water or ice in my turnaround. Last year, as the ice was melting, it rained. The water was flowing over my driveway and into my garage. Several years ago I purchased a pump. Many times I broke a hole into the ice, submerged the pump, and with a garden hose attached I would pump the water back into the ditch. For four years I called the Genesee County Road Commission and the Genesee Drain Commission office. Two engineers came out; although sympathetic and knowing the ditch was too shallow, nothing was done. It became a joke, friends would call asking if my pool was open.
I told my friend Sarah Bachmann about my ‘pool.? Sarah said, ‘Call Paul Amman, he knows more about what goes on in Atlas Township than anyone. He will listen and he will get something done.?
I made an appointment and met with Amman that week. Several days later he came out to see for himself. He said he would get back with me. I thought, ‘I hope this doesn’t take another four years.? He called back a couple of days later, explaining a crew had a very busy schedule, but the ditch from Bendix Drive to Rhodes Road was added to their list. The ditch was dug about two months later.
Thanks to Paul Amman, my ‘pool? is closed.
I hope he does run for township supervisor, he has my vote.
