Picked up truck
On Aug. 15, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 4700 block of Stanton Road to check for a subject sitting in a red pick-up truck behind his home playing loud music. While responding, the deputy saw a red pick-up eastbound on Stanton, driving too fast for road conditions and fishtailing 3-4 times through a curve before stopping beside the deputy’s car. The deputy activated his lights and told the subject to stop. The suspect said he had just argued with his mother. The deputy told him again to turn off his vehicle and the suspect responded that he lived three houses away and sped off, throwing gravel on the police car. The suspect’s truck was finally located at the deadend of Sandstone Road, 30 feet into weeds on the edge of the woods, empty, and with minor damage. The suspect had taken his mother’s car. The truck was impounded and held pending location of the suspect and an accident report.
Coke, but no smile
On Aug. 16, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 3400 block of Perry Lake Road for suspicious circumstances involving possible mail tampering. The complainant arrived home to find a Coke can on top of his mailbox. The contents of the can had been poured inside the mailbox, which also contained a magazine opened to an article about people losing their jobs. The complainant’s wife reports that she works with a woman who drinks Coke all the time and is being terminated. The case is open.
Smokin? bathroom
On Aug. 17, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 3100 block of S. Ortonville Road to assist the Brandon Fire Department. The home was being renovated by several workers and the husband saw sparks and flames in a wall in the bathroom. The source of the smoke was put out. There were no injuries.
$15,000 cash stolen
On Aug. 18, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of Stonebridge Court for a home invasion. The complainant said between Aug. 9-18, someone forced entry into his home and stole $15,000 in cash and an unknown amount of jewelry. A brick had been thrown through the window of the front door and the cash and jewels were taken from the master bedroom.It appears the responsible may have known where the cash was kept. The home was not ransacked and the thief ignored other valuables.
Out of jail, computer
On Aug. 20, a walk-in complaint was taken at the Brandon substation. The complainant said he was in jail between July 14 and Aug. 19 and during that time, an unknown suspect had entered his unregistered vehicle while it was parked in the complainant’s driveway in the 4600 block of Butternut. The suspect took a $4,000 Toshiba laptop computer, a $175 digital camera, a $400 ridge case with assorted tools, and a checkbook.
Drilled
On Aug. 21, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 2700 block of Mulberry for larceny from an auto. The complainant said an unknown suspect drilled a hole in his truck’s gas tank and stole his gas. The truck was parked in his driveway. It will cost $800 to replace the gas tank.
Catalytic calamity
On Aug. 21, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to a business in the 1600 block of Ortonville Road. The manager said someone cut a hole through the chain link fence to a storage area behind the business and cut catalytic converters off two vehicles.
Found
On Aug. 21, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 4500 block of Seymour Lake Road for found property. The homeowner found multiple tools in a box and pouch in an area near his barn while mowing. A business card was found in the box and when the man was contacted, he described the tools, which he believed he had probably left in his driveway. He was grateful for their return.
