Township fire truck delivered

Atlas Twp.- Last week, the township fire department received a new dual purpose engine pumper and tanker fire truck.
Fred Forys, township fire chief said the 2008 truck purchased from Marion Rescue and Fire Apparatus in Marion Wis., was ordered in August 2007. The $450,000 fire truck carries 3,000 gallons of water and pumps at a rate of 1,250 gallons per minute. The last new truck was purchased by the township in 2003.
‘The key to the new truck is its water capacity,? said Forys. ‘It can be the first on the fire or the second there’either way we’ll have at least 4,000 gallons on the scene.?
The new truck features an enclosed cab for six firefighters to ride in and is powered by a Cummings diesel engine.
The truck replaces a 1986 pumper sold to the Groveland Township Fire Department at a price yet to be negotiated, said Forys.
‘Thanks to the people of the area and the 1 mill fire fund, we’re able to have better equipment,? he said.
‘It’s a big safety factor for the community.?
