The Independence Township Board voted unanimously to approve the 2007 Community Development Block Grant proposal.
The township will receive $73,513 in the CDBG federal funds, administered through Oakland County. Projects and their funding are:
? Senior Services: $10,000;
? Disabled Services: $7,080;
? Battered Abused: $6,000;
? Youth Services: $5,000;
? Transportation: $5,000;
? Administration: $14,702;
? Mobile Home Repair: $25,731.
Mobile-home repair for qualified residents is a growing item on the list, said Deputy Supervisor Charles Herring Jr.
‘There have been numerous requests,? Herring said.
The Independence Township Senior Center will use some of its CDBG funds to replace a van equipped with a lifting device for wheelchair-bound passengers. The number of requests for handicap-lift van rides is increasing, with 1,471 already this year, said Margaret Bartos, senior center coordinator.
‘We’re getting more and more requests,? she said.
