Oakland Town Hall kicks off a new series of speakers with Rudy Maxa, The Savvy Traveler, on Oct. 14.
The award-winning radio and television host of shows including ‘Smart Travels: Europe with Rudy Maxa? as well as ‘The Savvy Traveler? will talk about travel secrets to save listeners thousands of dollars.
He’s the first of four in the 2015-2016 season, the 56th year of the nonprofit group bringing cultural and entertainment speakers to Oakland County.
“They’re so interesting ? we want to bring as many of these as we can to the community,” said Mary DuBois of Rochester Hills, president.
“It’s a great opportunity to go outside of your world and learn something new,” said board member Karen Bliesath of Waterford.
Town hall participants come from all walks of life, all with a love of learning.
“You’re never to old to be learning,” DuBois said.
“The club has an eagerness to learn more,” said board member Diane Midgley of Clarkston. “As lifelong learner, we’re always seeking good speakers.”
Patricia Ward Kelly, biographer, film historian, and widow of Gene Kelly, will be featured at the Nov. 11 seminar.
The series continues on April 13 with Chuck Underwood, host of “American Generations with Chuch Underwood” on PBS. The scholar will discuss different consumer tastes, career decisions, lifestyle preferences, and personal behavior of five generations over more than 25 years.
The series concludes on May 11 with legal scholar Jonathan Turley, who will discuss his experiences as a network legal analyst, covering stories including the Clinton Impreachment and several presidential elections.
The luncheons start at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Cultural Center, 43816 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills. Admission is $26 for lecture tickets, $42 for lecture and lunch, and $150 for the entire series. Check www.oaklandtownhall.org.
