Springfield Township voters pushed supervisor candidate Mike Trout and Clerk candidate Laura Moreau both to landslide victories in Tuesday’s primary election.
Trout came in with 1,454’or 58.82 percent’of votes cast for three candidates in the supervisor’s race, while Moreau netted 1,120’or 46.43 percent’of votes among five candidates for clerk.
Incumbent Treasurer Jamie Dubre was returned to office with 1,487?71.52 percent’of votes cast in that race. She was challenged by Renee Ann Oszust, who received 589 votes.
In the trustee’s race, incumbent Dave Hopper came out on top with 1,383?20.95 percent of votes, while newcomer Judy Hensler netted 1,251?18.95 percent of votes and veteran incumbent Denny Vallad received 1,209?18.32 percent. Incumbent Roger Lamont also retained his seat with 1,077?16.32 percent’of votes in the trustee’s race.
Springfield voters, perhaps concerned with the impending retirement of 32-year incumbent Supervisor Collin Walls and 16-year incumbent Clerk Nancy Strole, showed up at the polls in above-average numbers for Tuesday’s primary election.
In five of the township’s seven precincts, turnout was above 30 percent, with a high of 36.59 percent of registered voters showing up in the 6th Precinct.
The lowest turnout came from the 2nd Precinct, with 23.84 percent turnout.
Results were obtained from the Oakland County Clerk’s office and are deemed ‘unofficial? until certified by the Board of Canvassers. The process takes about 2 weeks.
