In other business at the Tuesday, June 17 meeting of the Independence Township Board:
? On their consent agenda, trustees approved second reading of a new storm water regulation ordinance, which includes provisions for a special ‘Sashabaw corridor? drainage system.
The ordinance establishes township-wide storm water regulations for new development, but gives those in the special Sashabaw district the option of connecting with a planned drainage system.
? The board opened two public hearings ? but heard no public comment ? concerning two applications from Consumers Energy for ‘disruption permits.? Trustees approved both.
The first will allow installation of approximately 944 feet of two-inch plastic gas main along Sashabaw Road to serve the Powers Professional Building.
The second will allow installation of a 300-foot deep anode system at Clarkston and Eston roads to provide cathodic protection for a Consumers gas main.
Township engineer Jamie Burton said the device is similar to that used by the township to protect water pumps from corrosion.
? Trustees approved a two-year extension of the final preliminary plat for Hidden Lakes, located north of the Manors of Deerwood.
The plan calls for development of eight residential lots with public streets, enclosed storm sewers and municipal water and sewer systems.
While all underground utilities and street curbs have been installed, developers reported that, ‘Mother Nature is causing us some problems? with construction progress.
Officials said the developer may only need one year, but the routine procedure is to grant a two-year extension when warranted.
