Two Brandon swimmers earn first place finishes in loss to Avondale

The Brandon coed swimming team gave it a good fight, but eventually lost a 96-80 decision to host Auburn Hills Avondale in a Dec. 14 meet.
The Yellow Jackets held a commanding 31-15 lead after the first three events (the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, and 200 individual medley), but the Blackhawks made their move in the next two events.
In the 50 freestyle, the Blackhawks took the top three spots, with Brad MacIntyre finishing first (27.42), Tyler Cole second (27.63), and Josh Collier third (28.12). Zach Cotton then took first in diving to tie the meet at 34.
Avondale took the first two places in the 100 butterfly to pull ahead 44-40, but the Blackhawks took second through fourth in the 100 freestyle to pull within two points, 51-49. Cole finished second in that event (1:01.36), MacIntyre third (1:04.20), and Tyler Walls fourth (1:07.56).
However, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Blackhawks 12-4 in the 500 freestyle to take a 63-53 lead, and never looked back.
Brandon’s other first place finish came in the breaststroke, where Tyson Delandsheer captured that event with a time of 1:18.68.
The Blackhawks travel to Walled Lake Northern Dec. 21 for a 7 p.m. meet.
