Brandon Twp.- The ball is rolling on a 47-acre recreation park at Oakwood and Hadley roads.
The township board approved $1,250 for a site plan for the park at their Feb. 6 meeting. The plan will be produced by Hubbell, Roth & Clark, engineering consultants based in Bloomfield Hills.
‘Once the site plan is done and accepted, our next step is getting this work done,? said Tom Stowell, park committee chairman. ‘We expect the plan to be finished by March 15.?
The park committee, which besides Stowell consists of Bob DeWitt, Charlene Carlson and Fred Waybrant is also moving forward with plans to have the Knights of Columbus remove dead and dying wood from the park site at no charge to the township. KoC will stockpile the wood and sell it, using the proceeds to assist area families in need.
Fundraising plans for the park are also moving forward, with a proposed $100 Club in which members pay $100 annually, with proceeds going to park development and maintenance. Another idea is to have a space on recreation registration cards allowing for a donation to a park fund.
Once the site plan is complete, ground will be leveled, seeded and prepared for multi-purpose playing fields. The fields will need a year to grow and Stowell expects play to begin next year.
‘I’m pretty excited,? he said. ‘We’ve talked about it for so long and it will be exciting when the first bulldozer is out there leveling the fields. Next year at this time we’ll be talking about when the first games will be played, probably May 2007 for spring soccer.?
