Village bridges to close in July

Ortonville — Bridge work in the village is set to begin the week of July 11. The construction will begin on South Street first.
The construction is part of a 95-5 grant with the state of Michigan for maintenance of road bridges. There will also be construction and closures of Ball Street and Mill Street.
South Street will be closed for three weeks at the bridge near the Brandon Library, beginning the week of July 11. This construction is the most extensive due to the bridge being made of wood, and it will receive a new road surface in addition to structural enhancements. It should be reopened at the end of July.
At the same time, Mill Street’s parking lane will be closed at the bridge for sidewalk work and work below the roadway. This will begin the week of July 18 and reopen the same time as South Street.
Ball Street will be closed at the bridge for two weeks, likely beginning the week of August 1. This requires a full closure where it crosses Kearsley Creek and will require a detour down Oakwood Road or Mill Street.
